 Who is the arguer, intended audience, and the opponent? (chapter 1 of the text)
 What are the ads trying to achieve? What beliefs, desires, or emotions is it trying to get the
audience to adopt, and for what reason? (chapter 1 of the text)
 What fallacies, appeals to emotion, slanting, euphemisms / dysphemisms, etc., are being
employed to persuade you? (Daily Show chapter, chapter 2 & 3 & 7 of text)
 What are the arguments stripped of the fallacies? Are the premises acceptable, contextually
relevant, sufficient? (chapter 3 of the text, advertising example from chapter 1)
2) What is the importance of human dignity according to Kantian ethics? Using examples develop an
argument for how manipulative persuasion in the form of advertising could be seen as violating human
dignity.
3) Briefly develop a thesis on any of the issues concerning advertising, politic rhetoric, political satire,
etc. Give reasons for your position.
