Reflection on values
Task
Shared values between an organisation and employees have a positive effect on employees’ job satisfaction (Paarlberg & Perry, 2007). Reflect on the similarities or
differences between your values and the values of the organisation where you currently work, or the one where you would like to work in the future. Use a real
organisation, not a hypothetical organisation. Visit the organisation’s website and identify its values. Is there congruency between your values and those of the
organisation? How does this congruency, or lack thereof, influence your attitude towards working in this organisation? Use supporting theoretical concepts from your
textbook and cite one journal article (written in the last ten years) that discusses this topic. The theoretical underpinning of the concepts will inform you and
encourage you to think about organisational behaviour in your own organisation. Make sure that you discuss the article’s findings, and identify how they are relevant
to the situation you are discussing.
Post your reflection to EASTS in one single WORD document by the due date for marking. Simultaneously, upload your reflection as a publicly viewable BLOG entry of
approximately 500 words. [Note: if the information you are discussing on your blog is sensitive in nature please disguise your organisation to preserve
confidentiality]. Students are encouraged to provide constructive feedback to other posts as a way of contributing to the knowledge of OB.
Instructions on using the Interact blog tool will be provided in the first week of the session (Interact/Resources folder).
Rationale
This assessment encourages information sharing and ensures all students are engaged with the subject, learning outcomes, and assessment tasks. Students are encouraged
to reflect, and to research the topic of personal and organisational values, which is one of the key themes in organisational behaviour. This assessment is linked to
the learning outcomes 2 (be able to recall and outline a range of theories and concepts about behaviour of people in organisations as individuals or as members of
collective groups, structures and cultures) and 3 (be able to relate their own behaviour in organisations to organisational behaviour theories and concepts).
