Sociological Imagination

Similar to Ta-Nehisi Coates’s Between the World and Me, which is a letter to his son, write a 4-5 page letter to your “self” right before you started your college career. Explain the “sociological imagination” with the hopes that your “self,” through coursework and other college experiences, won’t become a “Cheerful Robot.” Explain what it means to be a “person like you” (i.e., biography) in today’s society (i.e., history); which is exactly what Coates does without saying so. Tell your “self” about what matters to you (i.e., troubles and issues) and why. Referencing “real life” events and situations is imperative. Make sure to write you letter in a way that your former “self” will understand it and read it, though still make sure to cite Mills and Coates when necessary.
