Structural and consequence analysis for the provided scenario

D‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‍ebbie is a ten-year-old student at Pine Valley Elementary school. She was previously diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder at the age of two. Debbie has, historically, engaged in self-injurious behavior (SIB), including head banging, which has resulted in significant facial injury. A previous functional behavior assessment was conducted by the BCBA from the school district and it was determined that the function of the SIB appeared to be escape from non-preferred tasks or demands. The teacher was not sure that the results were accurate, as she felt that Debbie was usually compliant with most requests. You are taking over this case and have determined that a structural and consequence analysis should be completed to test the hypothesis that difficult tasks are the antecedent to SIB. READ THE PROPOSED PLAN : In Debbie’s example, a consequence of her self-injurious behavior is that she escapes the task that the teacher gives her to do. To conduct a consequence analysis I would first analyze the behavior in its natural habitat, watching what happens to Debbie after she exhibits the target behavior. If it is to escape, I will observe and record that. Then I would change the consequence that happens after her behavior. If her goal is to escape, I would redirect her back to the task at hand, or to a task that she prefers. I‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‍f she does not exhibit the self-injurious behavior after being redirected, or if she returns to the non-preferred tasks without issue after engaging in preferred tasks, we may be able to determine whether or not the non-preferred tasks are the antecedents to here self-injurious behavior., a structural analysis involves systematically manipulating antecedent variables and documenting the subsequent effects on the behavior. This type of analysis may be very beneficial with Debbie. As structural analysis deals with changing antecedents to see how it effects behavior, I would start with changing out the types of work that Debbie is tasked with doing and recording what behavior that she responds with. If she is presented with non-preferred tasks and responds with behavior life head banging, then we may be able to determine that the antecedent to that behavior is this type of work. For example, if Debbie is tasked with doing math worksheets and she starts to exhibit self-injurious behavior afterwards, then we can record the duration of that behavior and the antecedent that brought it on. NOW: Review the proposed plan and’ outline of how they would conduct a structural and consequence analysis for the provided scenario. Explain ethical considerations that would apply to the functional analysis that the person has or hasnt outlin‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‌‍ed.
