A government entity

For this assignment, select a government entity of your choice, such as a town or community, and develop two deliverables – a paper and a video overview that explain how the organization conducts its budget process.

Be sure to include the following in your paper:

· Statements of mission, values, policy goals, and objectives

· Process steps and milestones

· Revenue sources, including usage charges and fees

· Budget lines and fund accounting principles

· Clients and groups (also referred to as “stakeholders”) and interest groups

· Organizational charts, or if none are available, the titles and role descriptions of the individuals in charge of the budget process

Data may be collected through government documents, newspaper articles or videos, peer-reviewed research papers, legislative hearings of executive statements, and other official records.

Conclude your paper with a personal assessment of the effectiveness of the governmental body’s approach to budget management about public satisfaction, professional accounting, and budgetary standards.

You will also prepare a video (using Kaltura or another video recording software) in which you introduce your selected government entity and describe your interest in this subject.

Please address the following questions in your video:

· How will this course support your career aspirations?

· What relevant background do you have in budgeting and finance?

· Why are you interested in studying this government entity?

Videos reflection

The reflection paper is based on three videos and several journal articles

The videos to watch are Sicko (available on Vimeo and other sites for free viewing), and two more on PBS Frontline entitled ‘Sick Around America’ and ‘Sick Around the World’, also free viewing. Links are in D2L contents. These videos document healthcare in the U.S. before the Affordable Care Act and contrasts the U.S to other developed countries.

Also read the three journal articles in contents Module 5 authored by Dr. Moore. They are entitled:

a. ‘Determining the Effects of the Trump Administration’s Erosion of the Affordable Care Act on Americans Needing Healthcare’ (2020)

b. ‘Why Universal Healthcare is a Trend in the U.S.’ (2018); and

c. ‘Teaching the Affordable Care Act to Aspiring Healthcare Administrators’ (2016).

Two other links in Module 5 lead to other articles available on the Kaiser Family Foundation website. These offer additional background regarding current constitutional threats to the Affordable Care Act from the Trump administration.

Your assignment is to write a paper documenting your reflections on healthcare reform in the U.S. after viewing the videos and reading the articles. What is your assessment of healthcare in America relative to other developed nations? What trends do you see in the U.S. healthcare system? What would you like to see happen? What policy or legal changes would facilitate your vision becoming reality? Use and cite the articles and videos to support your assessment and observations. Be sure to title your paper and state in the beginning its purpose and the questions you will address.

Bentham and Mills’ Utilitarianism and Why It Should be Preferred to Kantianism

Bentham in his Fragment on Government lays down the fundamental principles of utilitarianism by decreeing:
“It is the greatest happiness of the greatest number
that is the measure of right and wrong.” I need a persuasive essay referencing texts of Bentham and Mills’ utilitarianism and referencing Kant’s preferred method of the “Categorical imperative,” arguing that Bentham and Mills’ method of decision-making is superior.

The Embargo Acts.

Your assigned reading and media this week have shown that the nation wasn’t necessarily a politically united nation, and Jefferson’s desire for a politically agrarian nation would end with the failure of the Embargo Acts. At this time, England and France were at war and the United States would support the nature of neutrality and free trade. Neither warring nation respected the neutrality and began to seize ships and impress sailors into their navies. James Madison would inherit these problems and would eventually ask Congress for a declaration of war on Britain. Given those circumstances, the War of 1812 was hardly an American victory. Was the nation ready for war? Was the declaration of war supported by all political factions?

Ironically, at the conclusion, the United States was stronger than it had ever been. Why do you believe this was so? Explain your answer with specific examples from your assigned reading and media.

The U.S. Constitution is the cornerstone of our federal government.

Reflect: The U.S. Constitution is the cornerstone of our federal government. The Constitution establishes a basic operational framework that enables the three branches of government—executive, legislative, and judicial—to interact and function as a unit. Embedded in this operational framework are two key principles: separation of powers and a system of checks and balances. Think about how these branches interact and the importance of these checks and balances and the separation of powers.

Write: In your initial post, please fully and directly respond to the following:

· Explain the difference between checks and balances and the separation of powers and explain why they are important to our democracy.

· Discuss one recent real-world example of checks and balances and explain the impact of it.

· Discuss one recent real-world example of balance of power and explain the impact of it.

· Discuss one recent real-world example of how the Constitution directly protects individual and group rights.
